Save Our Future From AI

About Save Our Future From AI

Why this campaign exists

Artificial intelligence has the potential to transform the world for the better.

But the more powerful AI becomes, the more important it is to ensure that people can continue to understand, govern and, where necessary, contain the systems we create.

The concerns are broader than jobs, privacy or manipulation alone. The campaign focuses on a more fundamental question:

Can humanity continue to keep increasingly powerful AI under meaningful human control?

Save Our Future From AI was created to encourage action on that question before highly capable AI becomes deeply embedded across society and critical systems.

The campaign is not about stopping AI or rejecting its benefits.

It is about establishing safeguards so that AI continues to work as a tool for humanity.

The principle behind the campaign

The campaign is based on a simple principle:

AI should remain a tool for humanity — not become something we can no longer control.

That means considering both the risks already visible today and the risks that could arise as AI systems become more capable.

People should be protected from misuse of their information, manipulation and important decisions being made without meaningful human oversight.

At the same time, society should prepare for more powerful systems by ensuring that high-risk AI can be independently tested, monitored, isolated or stopped when necessary, and that critical systems do not become completely dependent on AI without human-controlled alternatives.

What we are asking for

The campaign groups its proposals around six broad protections.

The 10-Point Agenda

These six principles translate into ten specific areas where the campaign is asking for safeguards:

  1. Strong protection for personal information
  2. Limits on unnecessary data collection and profiling
  3. Clear and meaningful consent
  4. Protection from manipulation and exploitation
  5. Meaningful human oversight of important AI decisions
  6. Human-controlled backups for critical systems
  7. Effective ways to stop or isolate dangerous AI systems
  8. Independent testing and monitoring of high-risk AI
  9. Protection for people who expose serious failures
  10. Clear accountability when AI causes harm

This is the complete agenda in a form visitors can understand quickly. The more detailed reasoning and proposals belong in the petition rather than being duplicated here.

The bigger question

AI development presents many immediate questions about employment, privacy, misinformation, safety and how automated systems affect people’s lives.

This campaign also asks people to consider a longer-term question:

What safeguards should exist if AI systems eventually become powerful enough that understanding, governing or controlling them becomes increasingly difficult?

The purpose of preparing safeguards early is not to assume that such an outcome will occur.

It is to make sure that society considers the possibility before decisions about powerful AI systems become difficult to reverse.

The Petition

The petition sets out the campaign’s concerns and proposed safeguards in greater detail.

Rather than reproducing the complete petition on this page, visitors should be able to read the authoritative version directly on the petition platform.

The petition is hosted on Change.org. Information provided there is handled by Change.org under its own terms and privacy practices.

Who is behind the campaign

Save Our Future From AI is an independent public-awareness initiative focused on the opportunities and long-term challenges presented by increasingly capable artificial intelligence.

The campaign aims to encourage informed public discussion about how society can benefit from AI while ensuring that meaningful human oversight, accountability and safeguards remain in place as the technology develops.

The initiative was started by Santhosh Kanaparthi and is intended to bring together people who believe the future of AI should remain centred on human interests and human agency.

The campaign is independent and does not represent any government, political party, AI company or other organisation.
